One of the easiest and most reliable ways to cook Corn on the Cob is in the Instant Pot. You might think this sounds strange, but believe me when I say it turns out perfect every time.

The thing about the pressure cooker is that it has to come up to pressure and release the pressure at the end, so it can take quite a while to cook something from start to finish. That’s why I think people avoid making things like corn on the cob and asparagus in the Instant Pot. But once you try it, you’ll see that’s not a worry at all.
If you use hot water in the instant Pot with your corn on the cob, it will heat up to pressure in about 3 minutes. Then you cook the corn for 2 minutes and when it’s done, you manually release the pressure. This in total takes only about 7 minutes.
In contrast, you would cook corn on the cob in boiling water on the stove top for about 10 minutes or on the grill for 15-20 minutes.
Ingredients for Corn on the Cob

There’s not much that you need for this recipe.
- Corn on the cob
- Water
The most important thing is that you choose great corn. You want to find corn that is firm and fresh, with no kernels that are shrivelled or dark.
You can check the corn by peeling back a little bit of the husk at the top to check the tip of the corn. If it’s mostly bare at the top, or the kernels are dry-looking or dark, pick another cob.
Before putting the corn in the Instant Pot, you need to shuck it and take all the corn silk off. You can cut it into halves or thirds if you prefer smaller pieces.
Toppings For Corn

You might want to toppings to your corn on the cob. I usually just butter it while it’s still hot, then sprinkle with a bit of salt and pepper.
You could also dress them up with toppings, if you want. Here are a few of our favorites:
- Shredded parmesan cheese or feta
- Mayo & paprika (+parmesan cheese)
- Cajun seasoning
- BBQ Sauce
- Homemade Pesto
- Cilantro
How Many Cobs Can I Cook at Once?
You can add as many cobs of corn as you need to the Instant Pot, as long as you don’t exceed the fill line on the pot. That’s usually about 8 cobs at a time, depending if you have a 5 or 8-quart pot. You can stack them up in the inner pot on top of each other, however they fit.
