Clean the potatoes well.
Pour the water into the base of the inner pot. Set the trivet or a steamer basket in the Instant Pot. Put the potatoes in the basket.
Lock the lid and set the vent to sealing (if necessary for your model).
Press the Pressure Cook button and set the time to 6 minutes on high pressure for baby potatoes, 10 minutes for medium, and 20 minutes for large.
When done, allow a 5-10 minute release of the pressure. The pin will likely go down somewhere in between this. Open the lid and remove the potatoes.
Serve hot with salt and any other seasoning or toppings you desire.
- Choose any type of potato you prefer, but keep in mind that the cooking time will depend on the size of the potato.
- Cook as many potatoes as you like at a time, but don’t fill the Instant Pot past the max line. It fits about 5 pounds of potatoes.
- Small potatoes require a 6 minute cook time. If you're using very small potatoes, a steamer basket is recommended.
- Larger potatoes require a 2-minute cooking time. If you plan on mashing the potatoes, add an extra 5 minutes of cook time.
