Instant Pot Apple Butter

On a chilly fall day, there's nothing better than a piece of toast slathered with this lovely Instant Pot apple butter. It brings all your favorite fall spices to the table.

Equipment

Ingredients
 

  • 6 apples cored and cut in half 2 1/2 to 3 lbs
  • 1/2 orange peeled and quartered
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 nutmeg optional
  • 1 star anise optional
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

Instructions
 

  • Wash and cut the fruit. Pour the fruit into the Instant Pot inner pot.
  • Add the cinnamon sticks, nutmeg and star anise (if adding).
  • Pour in water and brown sugar. Stir to combine.
  • Lock the lid. Press the pressure cook button and set the time to 15 minutes on high pressure.
  • After time is up, allow a natural release for 15 minutes.
  • Turn off the Instant Pot and open the lid.
  • Smash the fruit with a masher and turn on saute mode to let the mixture cook down for about 5 minutes.
  • Using an immersion blender, blend until smooth. If you don’t have an immersion blender, cool the mixture and blend it in the blender in batches until smooth.
  • Allow to cool, then store in jars in the fridge.

Notes

Store in jars in the fridge for up to 7 days or in the freezer for up to a year.
You can also can the apple butter, following a safe canning method.
