Imagine coming home to the aroma of tender pork chops bathing in a savory cream of mushroom sauce. You can make this dish in your Instant Pot just as easily as you would in a slow cooker, so there’s no need to have both appliances.
We’ll give you the simple instructions to turn your Instant Pot into a slow cooker and make a dish that promises both comfort and flavor. It’s the ideal meal to set up in the morning before work, only to come back to a ready-to-devour dinner.
Why You’ll Love It
- Cooking pork chops can be tricky, often ending up too dry. But with slow cooking, this problem disappears. The pork chops slowly simmer in a moist environment, resulting in chops that are not just tender but juicy to the core.
- These pork chops cook in their own creamy sauce which helps keep them moist and tender. You also end up with a delicious sauce so half your dinner is done and ready to go.
- You will come home to a perfectly cooked dinner waiting for you. It doesn’t get any better than that.
Ingredients You Need
- Pork Chops: Bone-in for the best moisture and flavor, but boneless works too.
- Seasonings: Salt, pepper, onion powder, and a blend of Italian herbs.
- Cream of Mushroom Soup: Pick your preferred brand.
- Chicken Broth: Low-sodium, or swap in vegetable broth if you like.
- Worcestershire Sauce: For that umami kick.
Equipment Needed
- Instant Pot – I use a 6-quart Instant Pot Duo Plus to make all of my recipes, but you can use any size or brand of electric pressure cooker. If you’re using an 8-quart pot, you will need to adjust the amount of liquid accordingly, as it requires more water to build steam.
- Instant Pot tempered glass lid – It’s best to use the glass lid when making slow cooker recipes in the Instant Pot.
- Whisk
Helpful Tips
- Thicker is better. Choose bone-in chops about 1 inch thick for the best results.
- Pat the chops dry and season them before laying in the bed of sauce in the pot. This will ensure the chops themselves are seasoned and flavorful.
- Resist the urge to rush; slow cooking is key for fork-tender goodness. It’ll take 3-4 hours on high or 5-6 hours on low.
How to Make Slow Cooker Creamy Pork Chops in the Instant Pot
Yes, you can pressure cook pork chops in the Instant Pot, in case you’re wondering. However, when using a thick creamy sauce like this recipe calls for, it won’t work because the sauce is too thick and there isn’t enough water in the recipe to create steam.
That doesn’t mean you can’t use your Instant Pot to make great Creamy Pork Chops. You just need to use it as a slow cooker instead. As a slow cooker, the pot doesn’t need any liquid to cook.
Step 1: Season the Chops
Start by patting your pork chops dry and seasoning them generously with the seasonings in the recipe. You can change that up if you want. Use whatever spices or herbs you like.
Step 2: Make the Sauce
In your Instant Pot, whisk together the soup, broth, and Worcestershire sauce. Whisk it until it becomes nice and smooth. Straight out of the can, the soup can be pretty clumpy.
Step 3: Add the Chops and Cook
Place the chops in the pot and nestle them into the sauce. I don’t drown them in the sauce. I leave the tops out of the sauce. I think this helps keep the chops from overcooking, but you can submerge them if you want.
Put the lid on the pot. You can use the regular Instant Pot lid if that’s all you have, but the glass lid or a glass lid you have for another pot that fits on works best. If you do use the regular lid, make sure the vent is not sealed. You don’t want pressure to build in the pot. If the vent is closed, it will start to pressurize.
Press the Slow Cook button on the Instant Pot and cook on high for 3 hours or low for 5 hours. Some Instant Pots have a “more” or “less” button instead of low or high. It’s basically the same concept.
After the allotted time, check the internal temp of your pork chops. They should reach 145°F(63°C) internal temperature before taking them out. This might mean cooking them for longer.
Serve these beauties with the mushroom sauce on top—potatoes on the side make it even better!
How To Make in the Crock Pot or Slow Cooker
If you happened on this recipe and didn’t realize it was for the Instant Pot, that’s okay. The instructions for making it will be the same in the Crock Pot or any slow cooker you have. Follow the same instructions that you see in the recipe card, only put the ingredients in your slow cooker instead.
Storing and Reheating
- Fridge Storage: Keep leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
- Freezer-Friendly: Freeze in a suitable container for up to 2 months.
- Reheating: Gently reheat on the stove or in the microwave, adding liquid to keep the sauce creamy.
What to Serve Them With
You can serve this dish with any side dish you like. That’s the best part – they go with everything.
